TheMiak Redesign
This is a project requested by one of my good friend, Alex. The design process takes almost 2-3 weeks, with a total working hours of around 48-72 hours. The design is fully coded by me, with a cool looking cartoon banner by Kael. All the cartoon colouring is done by him, and I am just to put the cartoon to the blue background and add TheMiak lettering. The reason I am using that cartoon as the header banner is because of Alex’s request too.
The design is a coded to the mechanics of WordPress Theme. Among the key-features implemented in this theme are:
- The full use of Gravatar. This is the first time I play around with the gravatar API, and I decided to put gravatar in blog entries too, not only in comments. That’s because it’s a group blog, so I guess instead of having the small name to differentiate blog post in homepage, I decided to add a 65×65 pixel gravatar to post.
- Widgets. With the new WordPress 2.2 where widgets is in the core, I decided to fully ultilize it. It would be a waste if I didn’t put in widgets. And besides, my friend is not much of a person that really wants to get his hand dirty just to edit a theme. I guess widgets is good
Well, those are the key features that are made available to TheMiak redesign. Among other mini features (that a basic theme should have) are:
- Comment Differentiation. Well, this is just to differentiate comments by making different background colours for odd numbered comments. I think a lot of theme implemented this.
- Official Comment. After some discussion in the Malaysia Bloggers forum, I finally decided to implement some of the ideas discussed, without using a plugin. It turns out great after all
- Search Engine Friendly. I always make Content to load first, then Sidebar. Well, that is always my main concern.
- Gravatar. Again? Well, at least I kinda force it to be used in my theme. Without activating the plugin. I think I will implement this for my future theme as well
- Plugin Ready Theme. I’ve added a lot of functions so that I can just activate and deactivate the plugins without editing the theme. Here’s that can be used immediately:
That’s all I can think off.
