Me: Hello, i’m looking for a vacancy stated on Borneo Post?
Boss: Yeah, we still have an empty vacancy.
Me: Well, i thought for a long time, i guess i want to be waffle because i’m too big for kaya ball and too long for sweetcorn so i’ll just be flat.
Boss: Er, you’re looking for vacancy?
Me: Yeah, being the waffle? How much do you pay?
Boss: Well, we sell waffle for RM2.00 per piece…
    Me: What? So low pay?
Boss: What do you expect? We’re not selling waffles dipped in shark fin…
Me: *sigh* I’ll look for another job then. *puts down phone*
Boss: ……… *thinks, what the hell with these guys…*

    :P :P

Most classifieds in the mainstream newspapers are peppered with silly mistakes. The other day we were quite taken aback when we came across an an advert in the NST which went like this:

“Chinese trading cumpany looking for a Mandalin spoken young graduate woman to work as a clasher. Part time also can but must also speak Melayu.”

Yeah man, we will all be dead if we begin clashing with one another in Boleh land!

So guess local papers are no exeception. The now defunct Sarawak Tribune was literally littered with silly grammartical errors all over its pages. The GREAT EASTERN TIMES is no angel either. See yesterday’s edition (Saturday, July 27, 2007).

Borneo Post has come a long way as far as its language and reports are concerned. But what is still lacking is quality printing. The newsprint reminds me of some scrapbook quality that we used to have in Britain in the Sixties. Very dirty and dark. Don’t know what the KTS people are doing! They have all the good people to turn the paper around but looks like their printing is going to drag them down.
