Why Torrents in Streamyx is SLOW
Now I know why. Now I know why. TMNet is limiting P2P traffic to international links. Not limiting, in fact, its BLOCKING!!!

See? All the download speed comes from local peers. So, if your torrent if full of non-local peers, you will get slow speed. No matter what kind of protocol encryption is enabled or forced, the speed won’t increase. So, if you want speedy torrent speed, find a torrent with a lot of TmNet user. I’m sure it will be fast. I am downloading Bleach at maximum speed this morning.
Updates: Recently, TMNet started to block connection to tracker to. You might want to check this out.

you must be new in town
TMNet been blocking for a month now and this is because they are running out of bandwidth and the Minister is forcing them to improve their service.
It is said that they will only add more bandwith by the end of the year so there goes your downloading fun until next year…
October 20th, 2006 at 3:16 pm
a month? is it? my torrent only starts to slow down last week…
October 20th, 2006 at 3:32 pm
Try monitor your downloads after 12am…there have been reports that it goes up during that time and the time where international links starts coming in.
I guess it affects K.L only…now only it came to Miri.
October 20th, 2006 at 4:47 pm
hmm… will try tonite
October 20th, 2006 at 6:11 pm
websites seem to load faster now though…so there’s some plus to that. try searching for direct download animes?
October 20th, 2006 at 9:02 pm
We need a competitor to make TMNet raise their own standards quicklier. It’s different for Astro because their service is good. But Malaysia deserves some better bandwidth here!
October 20th, 2006 at 10:43 pm
boringest, it seems the same for me though. And my youtube video streaming is a lot faster last time compared to now (the after nationwide maintenance period). As for direct anime direct downloads, I do know a few sites that offers it. For some reason I prefer torrent
Justin Wong, I heard that an internet exchange will be built locally and scheduled to finish in 6 more months. According to the source, once the exchange is finished, Internet will be cheaper for Malaysian, and the ministry claims that the monopoly of TMNet will be at the end. It is because that currently, TMNet re-route all their traffic through Singapore and USA, and that is very costly and apparently, only TMNet can afford it. So, once it is finished, ISP can be started up at a very low cost, and TMNet domination will be over.
Astro? They did a good job, but they deliver too many advertisement for a subscription service…
October 21st, 2006 at 1:35 am
They already did that for months actually since the day the article about they complaining P2P are hogging TMnet bandwidth was out in InTech.
I still think that TMnet will be a monopoly after the exchange built. I don’t believe them.
October 21st, 2006 at 9:48 am
The ministry claims that they will give the exchange for EVERYONE instead of TMNet only. How true is this, I don’t know la..
BTW, I tested torrenting just now midnight. Bad news, looks like the international links wont be opened even at midnight
October 21st, 2006 at 10:30 am
ouch…thats sad….
then i guess their throttling is 24 hours now….
October 31st, 2006 at 12:57 am
Streamyx limits/blocks the bandwidth per connection to other seeders and leechers, and Windows XP SP2 limits the half-open port connection to 10. So if Streamyx limits the download speed of BT per connection to 2kb, you will get around 20kbps download speed but like the writer said, “if you want speedy torrent speed, find a torrent with a lot of TmNet user”, maybe u can get more than 20kbps depends on how many TMnet users in that download.
Since we cant do anything to uncap the capped bandwidth, we increase the limit of the half-open port from 10 to around 50-100(i use 100). Guess wat… my download speed for 1 BT download increase from 5-12kbps to 112-114kbps after i change the Half-open port from 10 to 100.(still have to depend on seeder and leechers but at least 12kbps can max up to 114kbps)
note: i dunno whether i should post the half-open port patch here or not… well guys…. GOOGLE IT~! XD
Yesterday, my friend recommended me to play RYL. So i went to the website and download the client setup file. I noticed sumthing strange… 170kbps stable download speed!! I think streamyx upgraded 1.0Mb to 1.5Mb already man!! XD!!! NICE!!!!

Try using bitcomet 7.5
November 9th, 2006 at 4:01 pm
Well, frankly speaking, im using streamyx becoz of BT … if just for surfing or msn, then the normal tmnet is enough to me.
.. and most of the peers are from malaysia. (one question: the diagram of torrent status above from which client software?)
But Since last month, my torrents all become dead in the morning. By midnight, its only around 20
im staying sabah, before this, my bt can reach 50-60 max. But after listening to the voice of u guys, i really dun know what to do as we dun have another ISP. This monopoly really slow down the whole country. If the situation continue, then i choose to cut it down temporarily. X/

November 9th, 2006 at 5:15 pm
Right now I paid Streamyx just for fun. Why I am not using it? Coz there always a “KEJE KEJE PENINGKATAN”. SO 77 for 4 days for month.. Salute TM for their “GOOD OF SIHT SERVICES”
November 10th, 2006 at 10:23 am
Increasing half open connection doesnt even help for now. TMNet is throttling the p2p port, it’s not the client side problem, its server side.
btw, its a screenshot of utorrent client…
November 13th, 2006 at 3:03 am
after searching resources from net, many users comfirm that p2p got problem. is that true p2p really under throttling? not clients problem?
November 13th, 2006 at 8:43 am
Definitely not clients problem. The whatever protocol encryption also doesn’t help much either. So, now we just have to roll our eyes and wait for TMNet to allow p2p (hopefully).
November 13th, 2006 at 10:04 pm
BUT i have checked with some frens in KL and in Sabah, not all of them suffer the same problem. My fren in KL through msn can go until 60KB at particular moment in one morning, but mine only 8KB. i ve check many local forums , either affected since march, june, sep (most), or octobet. rare right? all torrents almolst dead epcept from local peer. Hope u guys post up ur situation of ur BTrecently, plz.
November 13th, 2006 at 10:26 pm
Yea… I too can get such speed… But I need to rely on local seeders, like the screenshot I posted on this entry. And yea, those speed is usually from midnight till morning. Afternoon until night is usually very slow, eventhough there are local seeders.
November 14th, 2006 at 8:42 am
Thanks for your entry dude. at least i know i am not the onli one in miri having this problem. I thought my pc is infected so i reformat it and heck in the end it is the evil streamyx who is the culprit
November 16th, 2006 at 10:59 am
If telekom really want more bandwidth to provide more customer, upgrade the facilities instead of killing our p2p. Or at least, just limit the usage of p2p to a lower level is better than totally banned. Is it possible to hold-down my streamyx account temporarily, then re-activate it again while there is improvement next yr (maybe).
November 16th, 2006 at 2:53 pm
They’re now limiting, not totally ban. That is why torrent is slow, but at least it is running.
Hahaha… why don’t you ask the TM Point people regarding “holding” your account? I would think it is not possible.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:05 am
Fuck TMNet for throttling!!!
November 17th, 2006 at 10:52 pm
Yea… half-open patch not working anymore
Screw you TMnet!!
November 19th, 2006 at 1:24 pm
I can’t connect to international clients begining last 2 weeks.
Looks like the encryption protocol has been cracked, time for BT clients to change the their encryption protocol
November 20th, 2006 at 2:09 am
im having the same problem here too. sadly, the protocol encryption is no more useful now. do you guys think that all of these things happen because if the upgrading bandwidth from tm net? well, i heard from some of them are having trouble with browsing and disconnecting issue… would it be they would block the traffic for international only for temporary due to the upgrade thingy or keep blocking the traffic forever? X/
now i dont feel like im using a broadband connection anymore.
November 20th, 2006 at 4:08 am
my torrents also starts to slow down since last week.before that,i can get 150kbps max.
November 20th, 2006 at 7:21 am
yeah, i am downloading prison break at that time. i was kinda shocked to see that my speed can reach around 150kb/s its unbelievable. when i check my speed at the streamyx speedometer, its true, my speed is really around 150kb/s. they must have upgraded the package for basic 1.0mbit. but just to know that my download became very slow until it reach 0 kb/s
and no speed at all? so i thought there must be something wrong with our isp again… X/
November 20th, 2006 at 9:36 am
Hi,
I am using W2K professional OS. And using uTorrent. I get about 1.2 to 2.0 kb/s.
What OS are you guys using? Is W2K slower than XP.
Thanks
November 20th, 2006 at 10:09 am
DC29, I am using WinXP using the uTorrent client. The reason its so slow because there’s local peers on the torrent that you have. Also, try to torrent at midnight until early morning, there should be reasonable speed.
November 20th, 2006 at 3:21 pm
Hi all, I know how u all feel cause i also suffered from this slow download speed that streamyx provide. but why not you all try to convert to linux because using linux you all can really tune the download speed more easily. Plus linux not like winxp or 2k (except win95) which have many security and background process that effect your net connection.
November 21st, 2006 at 4:04 am
hi all,
here in malacca…streamyx trothling down..download 2k -20k…..cannot reach the usual 60k anymore………..ditch .streamyx..but no alternative
screw tmnet…
November 21st, 2006 at 9:40 pm
Me too… kena the same thing…download is only 2~5k.
Sad…
November 22nd, 2006 at 1:28 am
my BT speed is back to normal
November 22nd, 2006 at 6:54 am
huh really? well, its better than before for me… not around 0~2kb/s but now was around 10kb/s when i tried it back. well good for you jack, maybe not all people would get the speed back at once. i should wait some more.
Anyway thx for telling me that, jack. i knew it have to do with the upgrade that they state it in the news of tmnet saying that there would be an interruption with international connection with hong kong and the others as well.
November 22nd, 2006 at 8:10 pm
i wonder when it will back to normal
November 22nd, 2006 at 10:47 pm
Fuck TMnet….
Melaka BT fuck down to max 20k…..
hopeless country … hopeless ISP..
November 23rd, 2006 at 4:47 am
This is what i get last nite.
November 23rd, 2006 at 12:10 pm
That’s pretty amazing Jack. How I wish my torrent speed is like that
November 23rd, 2006 at 7:26 pm
i have doubt with you last night, i guess you’re not lying then
so sorry i doubted you! wow, i wonder if there’s any trick that u use to make it that fast and back to normal? because… im still slow here lol
November 23rd, 2006 at 8:34 pm
Damn tmNet
i only got max speed around 25k
the reason why i subscribe to streamyx is mainly for download only…
i seldomly browsing and play online games…
then… what is the purpose i paid rm 88 every month if the down rate is like this?
like shit man… wasting my money…
why doesnt anyone report how suck the streamyx to the mass media?
lets the whole country know how suck streamyx are…
*cannot boycott streamyx b’cos its the only provider we have*
***damn…***
November 23rd, 2006 at 10:37 pm
November 23rd, 2006 at 11:21 pm
half-open port? well, i already patch them! haha yeah maybe you’re right, maybe it depend on where we’re living too. hmm, guess maybe i’ll wait some more days then. i just test it this morning and everytime the torrent connect to any international ip, it would still slowing down to 0 kb/s X/
November 24th, 2006 at 12:14 am
open port, port forward, etc etc.. how the hell you want to download when all international peers been blocked?!!
streamyx = streamy zero
November 24th, 2006 at 1:37 am
i think if TM only want us to do browsing and chatting and wont let us download, they not need to promote the 1Meg package. the 512k should be more than enough to do that.
streamyx broadband??
it should be “beruk-band”
November 24th, 2006 at 7:58 pm
well, to be more precise, they should NOT make any unlimited broadband if they think when there’s more and more people downloading 24/7 and they could not handle the traffic. they should have make the limited broadband. this is a joke if you ask me. the reason why i use tm streamyx because i want to download. let just say that TM streamyx at the lost now, couldn’t handle it? dont make any broadband then! of course now people would start to subscribe more and more on streamyx, and they also make so many offers for the packages so they blame us for using too long to download? aww gimme a break! X/
November 25th, 2006 at 12:15 am
yea torrent speed sucks now .. but Ares seems to work very well .being a p2p software itself .. but ares dosnt have da latest files.. hard to get
i guess shareaza , kazaa stuff will work fine now .. but i prefer torrents
hope streamyx upgrade .. soon ..
im gettin sick day after day with no dowloads ..
November 25th, 2006 at 5:59 am
i have found out something strange..
after TM do something with their line some of the connection got up to 2M.
i have witness it my self, my friend torrent speed can go up to 17+KB and when he try at speedometer the speed shows 18++Kbps…
damn.. i’m so jealous at him. he said that he do nothing and suddenly he got that speed…
damn.. my speed max only 30KB…
isk…isk…isk…
November 25th, 2006 at 8:17 pm
after reading you guys comment.. then, my question answered.. the problem comes from streamyx (wtf)..during hari raya .. when i try to dload my max speed for total dload reach 160KBs…and stable between 100KBs -150Kbs..recently.. very difficult to reach 50 KBs..sometimes only 20Kbs for hours….even dload prison break 15000 seeders..take for about half days..wish government give streamyx competitors..may they improve their works..
November 26th, 2006 at 10:55 pm
know i get it why my torrent are slow and only connect TmNet user only. thanks to all of you that i know why my torrent getting slow and the reason is because of TmNet limit torrent and not because of my computer or my streamyx.
before this my speed around 110-150kb by using bitcomet & using half-open patch. know the speed just around 30-50kb only with same setting. seem like we all will suffer because movie, anime, mp3 or anything can easily search and dl using bittorent.
because of i have to catch up my dl series, know i switch to mirc. i can get speed dl around 110-160kb just like using torrent. i know direct dl are more easily to use but very difficult to find for free. mirc also just like direct dl and easy if the channel having bot. it just you have to search the channel and learn how to dl using mirc. try to learn because they are lot of tutorial and channel in the internet you can get. for note sometimes the group provide dl also promote people to using mirc. they also sometimes give tutorial in they website how to using mirc. first time using it you will suffering because lot of work to do to get the command for request. but if you know where and how to get the request command, no more problem and bookmark the bot page for future dl.
for me this is the best way for now before my torrent speed back to normal. i hope this mirc thing can help for people who crazy dl and never watch 100% the file that they dl (like me
) good luck in learning using mirc and hope TmNet can speed up the maintenance.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:25 am
Hi all.. I am from Sarawak. I am facing the same problem like y’all, and I am really sick of it. Recently, I wrote several complaint letters to TM, highlighting our problems and the unfairness to us. To my disappointment, what they replied to me is that torrent users only consist of 20% of the total streamyx users (Bull Shit!!!!) and that they could not upgrade their service for the benefits of the minorities. I am really pissed off.
I’ve been checking around all local forums and found out that there are a lot of people facing the same problems like we do. Instead of us complaining in all local forums, let us gather our strength and express our view to TM and the Ministry. Anyone has any suggestion on what we should do?
Another thing, I noticed that TM has breached our contract because they have not provide the contractual speed (either 512kb, 1.0Mb or 2.0Mb).
November 28th, 2006 at 11:53 am
o_0 My tmnet only slow since few days ago, that is why i come across your website. For those who have been slow for months, have you try port forwarding, I use it, fast download like mad.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:47 pm
Looking back at the speed drop in torrent downloading, My spped only slowed down after using torrent downloading for 2 weeks. Before that i never used it. It was fast in the begining. I started on 2nd december. So what i suspect is they cap the speed or download at the user login level ie: username@streamys.com.They know how much you have used than cap your speed if you cross certain level of download say 5GB per month..Thats why we face the problems at different times. Anyone can add to this thought?
November 30th, 2006 at 2:56 pm
For a detailed explanation of recent speed problems check out Jeff Ooi’s blog
http://www.jeffooi.com/2006/11/streamyx_crisis_tm_wholesale_o.php
In summary the whole backend network started to collapse in October just as they were quietly upgrading everyone to 1.5MB.
And yes, P2P is throttled but not only for TMNet, also jaring etc. It may be a temporary thing to try to hide the fact that the whole network is messed up at the moment but it would be tempting for them to leave it perantently I suppose….
November 30th, 2006 at 6:32 pm
So got any idea how to made torrent download fast…how to get connect to Tm net p2p peer..Pls help..
Thanks

Just for everyone’s information, after being entirely down on 23rd November (aDSL sync up, but data “no jalan”), my Streamyx bittorrent downloads have dropped from 20-50k to 0-2k from the 24th onwards, even with port forwarding/changes and full encryption. I feel I have been RAPED!

December 2nd, 2006 at 3:36 am
well, i suspect some people did experienced slow torrent, and some of them are not. i agree with you guys, maybe its true that they have been monitoring our internet traffic by username. when they spot that we used to download for about more than 5GB or more.. they would block our traffic with international traffic in p2p app. so i guess i really have to admit my defeat?
for me its about 30GB or more per month that i use for downloading stuff, ouch! X/ will it be like this even after the new year 2007?
December 7th, 2006 at 7:44 pm
Hye guys….
Yeah people i agree with candice. Im in Jb too. We’re now experiencing the same problem with u guys. Our connections in Jb are too slow rite now. I mean for downloading torrent and p2p from foreign users. Aha guess what? I’ve just browsed tmnet website and I found something stupid. They promoted a new basic package for 2mb worth rm188 per month, but think straight people, why in the hell do u need a 2mb connection if u cant download? If tmnet only allow us to chat and surf I think those with the 1mb package (like me) should downgrade, because for surfing and chatting we dont need 1mb or 2mb or higher, 512 k is enough rite? So lets downgrade ! Biar TMNET BANKRUPT and hopefully several companies will provide us with a good broadband connections.
Regards..
December 8th, 2006 at 8:24 pm
yo guys! i found out something interesting. few days ago, my brother downloading a lot of manga from ftp link and he did queued a lot of manga zip with free download manager. at first, it works fine, the speed is normal and great, but as the queue goes halfway, the speed drop drastically to only few bytes!? from what i can say, the TM capped our download rate in “i dont know how big the size been capped” per day.
i guess they really dont want us to download for 24/7 anymore… how painful as i know it X/
December 8th, 2006 at 9:52 pm
I hate this. Torrent is my first choice for downloading. After tm net blocking torrent, man trakcer can’t can connect anymore. I fee like i wanna kill them GRRR.
December 9th, 2006 at 10:57 am
hello! as i searched for answer for my problem i found this forum.
so now i know i’m not the one with this problem!
about 1.5 months i was happy with my streamyx coz d/load went up 70kbps (never this fast b4) and even 2 files downloading with combined speed up to 110kbps! but all of a sudden, 2 to 5, most time even 0! damn streamyx!
by the way, i heard that streamyx might have a new & higher Mbps package somewhere next year. but WHAT DA HECK for with the speed when they’re going to cap us like this?!!! if this gonna continue and the method i figure about doesn’t work, i think i’ll want to downgrade to 512k package. 1Mbps is useLESSSSS under such capping thingy.
but i wonder if streamyx is WAITING for us to open our mouth to request for “unlimited download & upload, how much?” so that they can REALLY sembelih (put up a very high HIGH price) us all hardcore p2p users X/
December 10th, 2006 at 5:00 am
i neved had problem such slow torrent before..butttttttt..on 5th or 6th december 2007..both download and upload + local or foreign trackers being dropped off..i got like 1-12kBps for torrent download speed..upload??..5KBps like that..erghhh..sucks..
December 10th, 2006 at 10:54 am
hey guys,
no point complaining….until things changed….we have to make do with whatever that we got. I formed a group of malaysian torrent fans…amongst us……we can achieve a very good download speed.
If you’re interested to join us please email me at smarties2k@gmail.com
December 12th, 2006 at 7:09 pm
well its nice to know you’re forming the torrent group of malaysians. true, among us, we’ll get the reasonable speed no question about that. but, i think most of the thing like games, video clips, movies, are more likely to be released by the foreigner and that means i really need the international traffic to get working… well, it still sounds better than nothing heh
its just a matter of time before we malaysian get to publish many torrent so i’ll wait some more. as your name implies, way to go, smarties!
December 12th, 2006 at 10:33 pm
i’m in port klang and tmnet started blocking p2p in my area last sunday 10/12
December 14th, 2006 at 11:08 am
I still think they are blocking by user name. Because after slow connection towards end of november, I got good speeds in the begining of december. Yesterday 13th I had downloaded 7GB of files.Than My internet got disconnected. After reconnecting back my p2p speeds drop to 0.1 to 1.0. So I think tmnet lets me only download or use 7GB of data than they cap me. Is this fair?
December 14th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
Streamyx is crap…. gonna disconnect it if it goes on this way
it’s better to spent my $$$ on Astrp
December 16th, 2006 at 11:49 am
It seems that my torrent already dead. can’t even reach 5kb/s anymore
December 26th, 2006 at 11:51 am
Lol guys at least some of you have reached 100kb/s of p2p download before. When I first subscribe to streamyx, my p2p download speed was always around 50-60kb/s without opening more that 10 half open connection. After about a month, my p2p speed started to dropped around only 20kb/s of down speed. Then I patch my half open connection to 100 and my speed started increasing to 60-70kb/s of download speed then after about a month again, my download speed drops again. Streamyx is full of gayness guys. Now my download speed can only go up to 30kb/s. Gay company is gay in the end. Maybe someone should go to Tv3 and tell them to spread news about this.
January 15th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
just wondering, what bittorrent client do you use?
How come can you see that the ips are tm.net.my.
for me, I can see ips in numbers only.
aprreciate if you could share.
thanks.
January 15th, 2007 at 1:33 pm
Im using utorrent.
January 18th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
is this why my p2p progs like ares and utorrent running slow? man…. telekom gone to far. first they ask Rm20 +++ for sewa telefon. rm20x12 = rm240. i can buy a modern telefon than what they supplied. now, limiting p2p connection. hurm, maybe we should make a petition or jump for TIME broadband??
January 25th, 2007 at 11:58 am
[...] I’m sure most Malaysians knows that TMNet is doing something nasty on the heavy bittorrent users like me. Lately, they’re doing something nastier. Not just blocking peer to peer connection to international user, they’re now blocking P2P client connection to tracker! They’re on their evil plan on totally banning P2P! [...]
January 26th, 2007 at 12:27 pm
This morning I just ask TM operator why P2P connection so slow then they replied that it will fix untill 29 January. Hope this could it be true :fishy:
January 26th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Hey guys, I sent them a love letter recently… Check it out.
Hi,
For the past month and a half, after 10pm, my line goes dead. This
happens every single day. During the mornings, afternoons and evenings,
I don’t have issues, but come nightfall, my line gets disconnected, the
dsl light just keeps blinking. I have called technical support these
past 2 days, and they assure me that they will try and help me out.
To be quite frank, I feel that I have been paying RM99 a month for a
service that has been quite shitty. I feel cheated and also feel that I
am not being taken seriously. And these are the good points!!
I want you to know that I am a web developer and a graphic designer, and
I do this freelance. I do my work at night, because that’s the best time
for me to do my job. I have other commitments in the afternoons and
evenings. I was trying to upload some stuff for a client the day before,
and as usual, my line died. I could not connect and I could not do my
job, which resulted in the client being unhappy. I doubt he would ever
use my services again. My point is this: because of Streamyx’s bad
service, I have lost 2 accounts now, as well as uncountable potential
clients. I have also lost quite a surmountable amount of money that
these clients would have provided me. On top of that, I am still paying
RM99 a month for a service that is close to non existent. [except for
the tech support guys, who I must say, do a pretty fantastic job taking
bullshit from people, and their efforts are unfortunately not
appreciated by Streamyx.]
This are my demands:
1. I want a refund/reimbursement/ [anything else you can think off]
2. I have more work to do tonight, please move me to a different
segment, one that does not die. My dad lives 2 roads away from me, his
line is up and running without any issues, I am sure if he has no
issues, then mine should not have any as well. I will not accept another
night without a line from today onwards.
3. The image below is my up/download speed test I did online. I quite
frankly do not trust your speed test because it is tweaked and does not
bounce to servers in US and so forth. 42Kbps is NOT what I am paying
for.
4. I want better speeds to US servers. This includes being able to
connect to sites like veer.com, because that’s where I get my graphic
work done. I also want to be able to download torrents and so forth,
without any issues. The normal speed would be something like 100kb’s. I
am paying money for a service from you guys, and I expect to be able to
do whatever I want with my internet connection. If I wanted to watch a
video of George Bush and Osama doing the hokey pokey, then so be it, I
WANT TO BE ABLE TO WATCH IT. My point is this, no more bandwidth
limiting or throttling. I am sick of it.
These are my requests/demands. Failure to meet them will lead to a
lawsuit, as well as a petition signed by 600+ of my fellow streamyx
account holders, all of which are fed up of your lame services. Please
do not assume that this is just another silly letter with empty threats
and promises. I assure you that if you cannot meet the demands, you will
loose quite a lot of customers, including corporate clients, all of
which are included on the list. I have a site [anonymous, for now] that
these people frequent and each of us are keeping logs of the downtimes,
print screens of the error messages and even video’s of the bad
connections, errors and so forth. We are very serious, I think it’s time
that Streamyx got serious as well.
P.S.- to the customer service rep who is reading this, please escalate
this to someone who is influential. And by that, I do not mean the L2
staff, but rather a manager of some sort. I will be mailing in the
petition/list of users who are going thru the same issue as me, it is
currently being compiled and ordered for your viewing pleasure, please
take note. Also, sorry if I come across as harsh, but as a
representative of my community, I think it’s time we speak out to really
horrendous service. If you bought a brand new car and find out that the
steering is broken, you would argue to get the car changed, right? Same
ideology here. Thank you.

results:
1. better connection speeds.
2. no more drop outs.
3. able to surf previously unsurfable sites.
4. torrents are running faster, able to connect to some international users.
Trackers are down tho.
I think we have to work together on this… I have a small plan, will update you guys soon.

Basically, to summarize what they are trying to say… “We users are wrong, because they are incapable.”
January 26th, 2007 at 4:15 pm
@downrodeo – Seriously dude. You sent that to streamyx?! Kudos to you I must say and it’s good you got a better connection. Mine on the other hand is getting more shitty. Now I can’t even connect to any tracker. In other words, I can’t use torrent. WTF I must say. It seems that streamyx is now limiting your download/upload too. I went online usually on 7a.m to download some stuff. After downloading a lot of files maybe around 1gb or so, my download speed suddenly went down. I was downloading at 50-70kb/s and it suddenly went down to less than 10kb/s. Seriously, wtf is that? I also keep getting “page taking too long to respond” after that. Maybe I should “talk” to them? What would you guys suggest?

This is totally unfair!! I hate this!! They should do something and not just sit around their lazy freaking arses all day and doing nothing!!!!
People are angry and they should acknowledge that!!

Omigosh, I thought I was d only 1. Seems like every1 is

FUck streamyx FUCK IT! I HOPE THEY DIE!
January 31st, 2007 at 11:06 pm
hi, i totally agree with downrode.. .. 12% of users consume 80% of bandwidth? lol must be a joke … why? each of us are given appropriate amount of bandwidth to go online … (512kbps / 1mbps etc) .. then how can 12% consume 80% at our maximum download/upload speed? if 12% can consume 80% bandwidth.. then tmnet should change their name to tmnut ..
what we can do is ask everyone to online 24/7 .. lets see 100% user can make tmnut go down and force them to upgrade and provide better service… the bandwidth is what they promised us and bandwidth is what we paid for .. and bandwidth is the one they claim they doesn’t have enough…
February 2nd, 2007 at 6:27 pm
i hope streamyx burn down to the ground .maybe then there will be other good isp will take its place…
February 13th, 2007 at 5:50 pm

streamyx is just a fcuking around wit us coz dey think we’re stoopid. whoever said (cannot mention.. takut kena tangkap ISA) malaysia has first class facilities has bullsihted us. we are 3rd world citizens running on 3rd world facilities with 1 1/2 world mentality. if malaysia boleh.. why can’t stremix boleh too? fcuking idiots.
February 17th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
If streamyx wants to limit the download capacity then let it be. But please be fair and let us enjoy quality speed. I have been paying for nothing for the last 3 months. I called them few times but no answer, i email them they didnt even read and then delete it. What more can they do, just be frank to us about the situation now
February 21st, 2007 at 3:28 pm
seems to me that every one is having the same problem. i really and truly hope that the promise of upgrading the services is true………………….( they cant be trusted ). i believe that tmnut monopoly in the field is the cause of messing up the streamyx. i lost my hope that malaysia will be a developed country in the future. i am not proud to be a malaysian. considering the current brain drain and the idiots running the country…. this country will never be able to compete on a level field with other country.
please……..no monopoly………less corruption goes a long way in salvaging the current situation.
March 8th, 2007 at 10:37 pm
If their system dosent reliable to support BT need in this country. So!! Why do the stupid thing instead upgrade their hardware or f@@king ever thing. SO RUDE!! We pay maa… What?? is our money come like TOTO or JACKPOT!!
So ladies and gentelment!! This is we call malaysia. Always do the unpredictable or unreaseanable act or answers.
Now all my work are stuck bcoz this small matter. We all cybernut have a lot work todo then waiting our down complete. Wasting time maaa… 0.5 to 2.0 Bt. Even modem faster than broadband or what ever.
Why wasting streamyx money to pay lazy people upgrading or what so ever then buying new upgrade or equipment for betterment. What a shithole a we living in. After this what else whould happen? raise monthly payment?
All the BT charge become cheaper to trap ppl to enable them to get Boses bmw or merz instead looking what going on with subscriber problems.
This is malaysia, the good thing always become bad. THe bad thing always become good thing. haiyah… die like this.

Hello there fellow troubled Streamyx users. I am in Johor Bahru and the situation is just as bad. Who else is in the area ? As i heard that not all are affected.
The throttling seems to have started in KL right? I was away for a few months and came back to this load of shit. Can barely get anything via BT now. and now i am getting antoher problem, i can’t upload at all. Very very slow upload to ANYWHERE. Via http, MSN, until i get time out. Called the 1300 today but not really having high hopes.

Hey guys, try something called BitSpirit. I’m not sure if it is still being developed, but you can dig up a version from last year or so through Google. Where uTorrent says “connection reset by peer” BitSpirit goes strong.
June 13th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
what kind of speed can you reach and what torrent are you running ?
June 21st, 2007 at 6:39 pm
Let me tell you guys the reason.
Malaysia can still offer 384K bandwidth? Popular plan at 512K & 1Mbps?
Advanced and developed countries are offering over 25Mbps.
including Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, China.
That’s after the government push for competition and unbundling.
(some even before unbundling are also running at >4Mbps)
Still Malaysia want to claim to be IT hub? gosh! No wonder Malaysia Telcos are making money…and economic booming (just a little)
All at the expense of people welfare
Guess you people should start to push them.
July 5th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
This is crazy. My torrenting speed from this tracker used to be around 20kbps but it has recently dropped down to 0-1 kbps. I mean, the sole reason I subscribe to Streamyx is to download.
What’s the use if my torrent speed is this terrible and I have to wait months for a movie to finish?
July 19th, 2007 at 5:48 pm
u guys are a bunch of gays.they r laughing at u guys now.u guys complain too much but u guys cant do fuck bout it.they own the land lines thus they own ur gayasses!!

Guys,
If you happen to have a Linux machine, then I’m glad to say that there may be a temporary solution… check out this post. Danny’s been trying something new called Deluge, a torrent client for Linux, and I’m happy to report that he’s got really good speed since. There’s also talk of a windows version out soon, but then it’s just talk.
Anyway, hope this helps a lil.
Cheers.

TM getting old and slower….some Private company from Korean will take over their stake…blaming customer for their incompetent is their usual byrocrack. I hope and pray TM will die in glabalization. I hope more Malaysian will become Hacker and attack this incompetent nymph. Total loser to cap 80% international download. Eat customer money and gave back shit. This How to take over TM, buy their stake and bribe lots of byrocrack. Korean company…i hope you read this.. what with the Korean,,,they have 30mbps connection..no cap, USA do have, on their head. Unable to compete….just be dead….cannot download movie, go to cinema, they still cap the movie…satupid..streamyx is like connection similar to that of a shared water pipe my ass…they think you stupid,,,because TM are. Everybody sue TM nymph for breaking contract. I gave you clue…advert 1mbps and get shit. 12% user using the traffic of 80%. is this mother f753ker real satupid or just work somewhere in Jabatan air. They are trying to say this actually…we want to sell/get a lot of account and provide them with shit bandwidth. You get 80% bandwidth local malaysian network and get 0.2% international traffic because we TM wanted to earn more money from lot account, sharing 0.2% international traffic. We(TM) cannot gave what you want because our monopoly will ensure that. The International traffic cost money, why in my pocket would I do that. I get 1 shit of bandwidth and divided it into a tiny shit and get more money……………
LET’S ADOPT FAIR USAGE
Let’s fu7k the User, they don’t know it.

October 14th, 2007 at 11:29 am
haki, as I know, there’s a client called Xun Lei that is able to bypass the throttle in Streamyx.
ah weng, your speed is OK. Mine is similar to that. That’s what you got for a 1mb RM88 plan. Now, the issue is that you won’t get that speed when you’re torrenting.
October 20th, 2007 at 10:26 pm
huuuuuuuu… i’m face the same speed problem like u all guys..
i have try to searching the best web site for the malaysian/tmnet user torrent usually use..
is there any? would you guys mind to tell me..

October 31st, 2007 at 10:43 am
It is a simple business logic that if there is no competition, there is not going to be any enhancement of service.
TMNet is a nasty pile of overgrown tumor undergoing uncontrolled mitosis at an exponential rate. It is the by-product of unhealthy, uneven and ambiguous government policies.
If untreated, it is bound to clog the arteries of progression and result in the death of the individual (the country). While it is easy to identify the cancer cells, separating it from the system can be notoriously difficult since no clear line is drawn between the cancer body (TMNet) and the working circulatory system (TELEKOM). Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been called a cancer tumor and thousands of souls would have been salvaged since the dawn of civilisation.
For people who cannot afford a VPN, get a free SSH shell and tunnel your way through the clotted web of bandwidth capping. I could reach normal download speed this way (from 5KBps -> 60KBps for a 512Kbps pacakge). You deserve the better.
BUT BEWARE
, for this is not the ultimate solution. Throttling might still occur if your activities are off the chart and TMNet will do anything to stop you from tapping into the bandwidth. I was once blocked from accessing the SSH server (by sending ICMP packets from remote servers located at different locations, it is revealed that the server is accessible everywhere else but from here). I’d say there’s a 90% chance that this is the doing of TMNet.
Check it out:

You guys could probably get that new celcom broadband package but I heard it’s expensive as hell and max speed is only 300kb++. The government really fail. Stop sending man to the moon and wasting money. Improve the facilities and accommodation first. Hell the Koreans and Japonese can get 100mb internet with less than RM40 a month. Fuck you fuck you. Pardon my French
November 8th, 2007 at 12:17 am
ok:x
How come i get no connections? Because TmNet, those frickin bastards, are limiting international p2p connections and restricting us to local peers.
tmnet seriously needs to try out their services for themselves:x
they are unbelievably unreliable.:x
my torrents are downloading at 3.1kbps, and by that i mean the total speed for 5 active torrents.:x
Infact, 3 of them aren’t downloading at all. The seed count was about 100, 180, and 400.
On top of that, they are promoting their products more and more every month, which pisses the ass out of me because they are already running out of bandwith and still trying to distribute it amongst more users.:x
Sure, it’s cheap. But it sucks.:x
I don’t want to be paying 88rm a month for this shitty ass service.
November 8th, 2007 at 11:07 pm
The only way to download at maximum speed now is to create a tunneled connection so that Tmnet would never know where is your pc connected to and what protocol that you are using.
December 1st, 2007 at 12:26 pm
Earls got visit by CEO of streamyx and telling that the computer speed can make the internet speed goes down. but can he explain why my speed still slow? My PC spec is…
Intel Quad Core 2.4Ghz.
Corsair 2Gb 800Mhz Ram
Asus Mainboard Can’t remember what is it.
MSI Geforce 8800GT 512MB PCI Express 2.0 Over Clock.
I getting like… shit connection… sigh… Streamyx is hopeless..
December 27th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
I am using streamyx 512kbps. yesterday i try to download 125mb movie using bittorent. u know what? i have to wait 3 years 6 mth to complete downloading. Suxx!!
January 12th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
The year now is 2008. No improvement yet. Guess 2020 will be not be much better. ‘Developed Nation’ by our own standard.
January 13th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Xun Lei works superbly, with a 150+ kbps global always
i guess it use a port 80 for TCP and but i tried with other clients it juz wont work
it is a chinese software, i dont think it has an english translation yet.
January 14th, 2008 at 2:34 am
I’m really pissed with their service. It’s slow as hell definitely
January 18th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
I am using streamyx 1mbps. theoretical it can download up to 128kB/s.
I currently used bitcomet and have used streamyx for 2 years till todate.
The best it can download is up to 112kB/s i.e at 896 kbp/s.
Base on “http://speedtest.thaivisa.com/” – my actual download speed is somewhere 850 kbp/s to 950 kbp/s, thus i believe it actually not Streamyx which got the problem – but rather due to our connection or our setting.
I’m using Belkin ADSL 2+ as a modem and router for me to do port forwarding inorder to get the best speed. Last time was using Linksys as router and ZTE (provided) as modem – which can’t get up to this speed.
It also depend to the torrent file you are going to download, some torrent file, although i got a lot of peers but i only can download 2-5kB/s, some although only a few but i can download up to 100kB/s.
February 3rd, 2008 at 6:15 pm
It’s not just torrents. I’m trying to download a large .tgz file via FTP from a machine in the U.S., and this piece of shit gives me ~5K/s
March 14th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
My download speed for 1 BT 230MB download increase from 60-120KBps…in 2 hour down back…My streamyx 1MB…I download very faster…I use program China download manager very Faster in the world…Program Bitcomet and utorrent very slow…I can help from Malaysia only…send my EMAIL….!!!!!
June 30th, 2008 at 10:13 am
Was just randomly looking for an idea why Streamyx was so bloody slow the past few months and came across this blog
Yes, they suck.. and no, other ISPs are no better. Not unless we upgrade our infrastructure, things are gonna be stagnant like this for the next couple of years.
Wanna talk about the whole Klang Valley going wireless? Good luck, I’m sticking with my landline, thank you. At least it’s not gonna get so bogged down..
Yes, try using Xunlei / Thunder. It does bypass the TM cap on bandwidth. I’ve reached 250KB max per download on a torrent file before.. But of course, must have a lot of peers lor
They’ve actually come out with an English language translation (by HeHeHunter, I think). The translation is easy to find, but the actual Thunder version that works with it, is sorta hard. Try looking for the no-ad AYU Thunder version.
Well, that’s all for my 2 cents worth ^^
June 30th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
WWWWWWWWWWWoW I been tearing my hair out for days because it takes 25mins just to open a pdf file from uk server. i thought this has got to be my fault so got rid of all programes not using anymore and defragged etc
But to no avail still slow I was about to completly do a full reformat of drive and start again – then I met you guys.
Wow at least now i know its not just me, however i live in JB and upto 4 weeks ago it was great no probs getting 100kbs now i’m lucky if it give me between 5 and 25 max.
Just wish there was competition to throw at them I’d leave in a shot.
But no choice lah, have to suffer like you guys.
Well keep chin up because the only way to go now is up and faster, how long???
Thanks for reading.
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:23 pm
One thing you might want to try out is OpenDNS. It reroutes all ISP traffic to different servers (speeding to your connection drastically).
Another thing is called Hotspot Shield. It’s a free vpn service providing users a secure connection to servers in the United States (with an IP address in Colorado). It works very well and can stabilize torrent speeds as well. It’s also great for watching streaming tv shows on Hulu and Fancast. I wrote about the service here.
October 6th, 2008 at 1:22 am
God, if there were competition people would have leave them already.
This monopoly idea is making consumers suffer. TmNET doesn’t make any improvements to their service since the field is monopolised by them. Lousy service offered and slow internet. TmNET sucks!!
October 7th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
What happen to Malaysia boleh. Sadly TMNET tak boleh. Brings shame to Malaysia.
October 7th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Okay, now I have problems with the speed as well. Currently in Sabah and can’t donload torrents at all, even if have local peers, the speed is like 5kBps! What happen to my stable 150kBps?!
November 16th, 2008 at 10:22 am
After 1:00am is fast, it is true, max download speed: 30.5kbps ,which i live in Pudu KL, im using utorrent. Just downloaded a full game, took me 14 days T_T. Mostly 0.3-0.7kbps only lol.
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:28 pm
I think I would opt to celcom broadband maybe. TMNet is doing something, but it is not improving the situation at all. My connection speed can only go up to 500kbps but I am paying for 1mbps.
January 10th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
Hey guys… lets face it. streamyx is providing and i think its good enough. and we’re stealing which streamyx is still allowing us to do so. just that they limit the downloads so we won’t be burdened with piles of sins from stealing other ppls hard work. cmon now dont be blaming streamyx. it would still be the same with any other upcoming telcos. stop yer whinin’ already.
February 6th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
@Sigh – you cannot say things like that. we paid for bandwidth services, not limiting our experience. regardless what we did, streamyx or any provider for that matter have no right to dictate what user does.
March 11th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Just want to share…
I have streamyx 1Mbps (2Mbps link detected at router) at home, and TIME Biznet 5Mbps SDSL at office.
Using streamyx to download torrents = < 10kb/sec#
Connected from home to office network via VPN* = ~200kb/sec#
If download directly from office network = 500-600kb/sec
*Route all internet traffic to office network
*Router and firewall at office configured to forward/allow torrent traffic to my VPN client IP address
#The speed immediately change after connecting/disconnecting VPN
Well, not everybody as lucky as me, but this is just to further confirm that streamyx is the cultprit. According to 2 of my friends that are using Jaring broadband, they don’t have any problems downloading torrents.
Same goes with eMule.. can’t connect at all using streamyx but when connected to office via VPN, connected instantly and download speed was good.

I am From USJ6, I notice that TM really throtting the bandwith. I can’t watch 15 malaysia video and suffer slow download speed of that video. My package was 1mb. I can download the video at 220kbytes/sec, But now only 5-10 kbps. I also don’t know why. I did a speedtest at speedtest.net the value can shoot up to 1.5mbps or even higher on sometimes, but now most of the times it was below 1.3mbps. Huh… I hope It can change……

I have to find new ports to open every few days- Streamyx seems to be closing the ports I’ve forwarded. Is this happening to anyone else? It’s damn annoying:(

hi i am Adom bob from California Torrents is a good Downloading Software and i am using already this software for the download movies, Video Songs,stc..
but Torrents speed depends on the “seed” and “Leaser” .
Thanx.
July 6th, 2011 at 7:16 pm
yes i am agree with you torrents is slow because if you downloading Movies, songs, software etc… if the seed and leaser is more then speed is good and if seed and leaser is less the downloading speed is slow that is the reason of torrent slow speed.
