Interest VS Job Availability

March 16th, 2006 in Personal 12 Comments

Dilemma, Dilemma, DILEMMA.

Interest VS Job Availability.

IT Course VS Accountancy.

My mom and sis was talking about me. My education. My further studies. My mom asked me, “What do you want to study??”. “Computers”, I answered, making Information System Engineering sounds simple.

Then she started asking my sister about her boyfriend, who have a degree in IT. My sister explains. She says that her boyfriend was indeed having a tough time looking for jobs in that particular field in MIRI. After a few contracts job in IT field with Shell and some other companies in Brunei, now he has a quite a stable job. But this job is totally not related to IT. He is now in the marketing field.

Then my mom start babbling about accountancy and how easy to get job with it. My sis agree with it.

I can see what they are trying to imply. GO FOR ACCOUNTS AND NOT COMPUTERS!!!

Here’s some list of stuff that I can gathered so far.

Accounts

  • Can study in Miri, this mean save cost as in living expenses and stuff.
  • Cheap, check out here. Look at the CAT course.
  • Easy to get job in Miri. (Even everywhere)
  • Still with family (yes, I am a family type of guy).
  • I don’t hate accountancy, but it’s not like I like it so much either.
  • My 8A2B SPM Result doesn’t seem to get any discount from that institution.
  • No outstation experience. Still in my homecity.

Information System Engineering

  • Study in KL, outstation experience.
  • Independent, no family with me.
  • Computers is my interest.
  • Discount up to 75% or scholarship provided by UTAR with my current SPM result.
  • Currently, it is almost 0% IT field jobs in Miri. This situation might change after a few years, but the posibility is low, in my opinion. I would prefer to work in my homecity rather than other places. That doesnt mean non-Miri jobs is totally out of my mind though.

With this list, I have to decide. It’s either I get a secure job or pursue with interest. This is a tough shit for me to decide.

I am a BIG-TIME LEECHER

This is my utorrent’s stats.

My uTorrent's Stat
Heh, I am really a big time leecher.

Look!!! I upload less than 50% of what I downloaded. Looks like people like me won’t create a better future for the torrent community… Oh well, I’m just a typical Malaysian. :P

Actually, I do want to seed, but due to my small harddisk space (20GB), I have to move all my downloaded files to my brother’s PC. This PC is too old, I don’t plan to do any upgrade to it at all. So I just let it be with the small 20GB capacity. :P

I got my SPM Result, now what?

March 14th, 2006 in Personal 12 Comments

I got my SPM Result yesterday. It was just last night when my brother ask me, “So now what? Form6? College? University? You got 8A 2B, not bad result, I must say…”

What now? What should I do? I wrote about my dillemas here and here. I got a lot of motivating words and advises. I even ranted about how expensive college life is. Take a read. I need your comments and advise, again.

If you read my previous mamblings on how I must decide for my future, most of the commenters states, “Score your SPM, don’t think about this so early”. Now, I got my SPM result, a quite decent one (I think), 8A 2B. I am still interested in the IT field. I still love computers.

BUT, my dad is now a retiree. My brother is currently looking for a job (doing some “at home” part time). My sister is working, but she has to pay for her car loans and stuff. How my family survived? My dad’s KWSP. My family is indeed having financial problems.

Currently, I have UTAR and KTAR in my mind, considering cheap courses provided by them. My brother completed his Diploma in Quantity Surveying, with the whole course less than RM10,000. Another one is pursue Form6, study in a school-like life for another 2 years.

What should I do NOW? :(

My SPM Result

March 13th, 2006 in Writings 24 Comments

I’ve got an unexpected driving lesson. Damn my driving instructor, come to my place and pick me up without any notification yesterday. Luckily I woke up early, if not he will have to wait for me today to take bath and breakfast 8O

So anyway, I went to my school around 12, after my driving lesson. My school was quite empty. All of them got their slip around 10am, and I was 2 hour late. Can’t see those people’s happy, sad, crying, sour and sweet face.

So, How was my result? I’m satisfied, despite the fact that I am such a last minute person. I remember how rushing I am the final 2 weeks before SPM, trying to catch up all my Science subject. My result? 3 A1, 5 A2, 1 B3 and 1 B4. I got B for my BM and Moral. A1 for English (thanks to my blogging experience and all the blogs I read :P ), Maths and Accounts. The rest is A2.

Not bad lah…

My SPM Result
My SPM Slip, along with some other certificate.

For my MSN Contacts? Ok, I lied. I got 8A 2B instead of 8B 2A. :P

WordPress Upgrade

March 10th, 2006 in Site Related 2 Comments

The developement team from wordpress has released WordPress 2.0.2, where they fixed quite a number of bugs and security fix. It seems like there are some unannounced XSS issues privately discovered and has been fixed in this release. I must say that this is a MUST UPGRADE for all WP2 users. Security problems are scary. 8O
I am now working (really hard) on my revamp. For those linking me, remember change the link now. Say no to blog subdomain. GeminiGeek.com will do fine. I am expecting my revamption to be completed by mid-April. After that, I don’t think I will have the time to do this kind of stupid redesign or revamp.

For those waiting SPM result like me, well, 13th March is the day. 3 more days…
