Slack Off Mode: Turn OFF

March 31st, 2006 in Personal 2 Comments

I just enrolled for ITF’s CAT programme. Looks like my 4 months “Slack-Off Mode” have to turn off for now. Slacking off for 4 freaking months has finally come to an end. But to compare with 11 years of study with occasional 2 months holiday per year, the ratio of Study:SlackOff is still more to study.

Ok, I should stop comparing Study:SlackOff and Download:Upload in bittorent. :P

I will be back to study life this 3rd April. A big “YEAY” for me!!! I mean, at least now I’m doing something more useful than slacking off, don’t you think so? Back to study, that means more stuff to write about. Not like now, stay-home-anime is really crazy. For 4 months straight I have been making my router and modem to work like hell, downloading anime and jdrama from day till night. It’s time for her to rest too.

Hail For the Geek!! He’s back to study!!! LOL~

Of Commenting and Replying Comments

March 25th, 2006 in Writings 5 Comments

Commenting is one important feature in a blog. That is where the interaction comes, between readers and authors, and also readers and readers.

Commenting is really good, this is where everyone gets to voiced up any issues that the blogger writes. But, I find it a big problem when there’s actually commenters who’s commenting something irrelevant to the topic that the blogger is writing about. I find it even more annoying when some commenters actually thinks that leaving a comment is like chatting with the blogger.

What shall we do with comments like that?? It is not spam. I feel bad when deleting comments like that, so most of the time, I just let it be.

When there’s comments, the author will read, and sometime respond to it. It’s a big problem when it comes to replying comments. In default, a blog’s comments isn’t threaded, when you post a comment, it just goes in chronologicaly. There’s plugins for wordpress that allows you to have thread comments. The problem with threaded comments? You can only reply one comment with one comment. It will be really messy if people keeps replying the replyer, making a designs totally mess up.

And there’s another trend of how the blog author replies readers comments. Go here, here or here. They tend to edit commenters comments and add their own notes. This, thus doesn’t give a comments number increase when you are replying. I am not implying that “the more number of comments, the better the blog’s reputation”. But, I am the type where I only click on read comments whenever I want to leave a respond. If I am expecting a respond from the author, I am also expecting a comments number increase. If it doesn’t increase, I couldn’t be bothered to click on read comments. That is my style, and I bet not only me does that.

The final trend that I see is the author adds their own comments and they write the commenters name in front, then state their replies. This is what I do. I find this way more efficient and a lot better than the previous two ways. BUT, it’s a big problem for everyone to refer what the commenters write and why the blogger replies that way. In forum, we can quote from people and reply straight away. In a blog? I wanted to do that, but I find doing that takes time and making comments replying way too long and a big fuss. It’s not like there’s automatic quoting like in forum. In a blog, it is all done manually.

As a conclusion, a blogger should at least create a commenter’s ethic page or some commenting rules. Shit like manual spammer happens, and it can be a really big problem. As for comments replying, I am planning to take it as a serious issue in my next design. Making comments replying using a breakthrough technique. Ok, I am just imaginating things.. :P

What? Friendster Virus Add??

March 24th, 2006 in Writings 4 Comments

I got this private message from some friend of mine.

Message: If someone by the name of j_neutron07 wants to add you to their list , dont accept it. Its a virus. Tell everyone onyour lits because if somebody on your list adds them you will get it too. It is a hard drive killer and a very horrible virus. Please pass this on to everyone on your list. We need to find out who using these accounts.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

It’s amazing to see virus in your friend list. It’s amazing that adding a friend in friendster can get a virus and get your hard drive killed. It’s amazing it infects your friends’ friend’s too. It’s simply amazing.

You see, email virus isn’t that amazing. As I know, the virus won’t do anything UNLESS you execute the infected attached file. But this amazing j_neutron07 virus can infect your computer without executing anything. But this private message is like a notice of, “Add him and your hard disk is dead”.

AMAZING. High tech. I can’t think of anything possible for a virus to infect your computer by just adding it. Damn, looks like my geeky brain lose this time. Argh~

The relativity of Hair

March 22nd, 2006 in Writings 4 Comments

Hair
Look at the hair.

Everyone have hair. You have hair, I have hair. It’s just the matter of where your hair is and it makes you and me different.

Most people likes to relate hair and maturity. I still remember all those sarcastic words from my friends. Whenever there’s sex conversation and some naive boy tries to poke in, my friend normally say, “You ar, don’t even have hair there, you won’t understand what we’re talking about lah…“.

See how strong is the relativity between hair and maturity?

It is true that you don’t have a lot of hair when you are young. As you grow older, hair starts to appear from anywhere, not only your on head. Yea, armpits, body, legs, and errm.. that part.

But I hate the fact most people likes to think that, “The more hair you have, the more mature/old you are”. Or something like that…

You see, when I was in my Form 4, I still remember my sister’s friend mistaken me for a Curtin U student. God, I am only 16 that time. It’s because of facial hair, I think. I don’t want to shave it because people say, when you start shaving, the faster it will grow.

Facial Hair
Example of cool Facial Hair

My facial hair isn’t that LONG. Gah~

Why?? Why?? Why??

Why is hair always related to whether you’re old or young???

Why?? Why?? Why??

Vin Diesel
Vin Diesel, and he’s not old.

Maybe I should go bald? No hair at all, then nobody can mistaken me for being older than my real age. Hah~

I have Decided

March 18th, 2006 in Personal 7 Comments

After writing this entry and thinking about it for a few days, I have decided. I decided to stay back in Miri and enroll for ITF’s CAT course. Well, that is if I didn’t get the Petronas Scholarship. If I get the scholarship, I will of course go for it. Free Education, of course I wanted it.

Well, I would like to thank all the commenters for their valueble words. Your opinions did open up some part of my mind, thinking further. For those who called me up or SMS me after I wrote that entry, thank you, your words is something I appreciate the most. For my MSN contacts, well, we do have a great time talking about our future. Thanks for all the comforting words.

I finally decided to take up accounts due to mainly due to this few considerations:

  1. My current financial situation
  2. A job security
  3. Something I don’t hate to do

Financial situation? Yea, my family is having a tight budget, trying to migrate from a working father family to a retire father family. I don’t want to burden my dad. I know my dad really wants me to study outstation, yes, I do to. But, I guess I want to earn and do it myself. Maybe some minor financial support is acceptable, but not too much. Dad, you still have to support the whole family. Wait until we’re stable, then I see what I can do.

I know, Engineering course can earn a lot, but Physics is tough for me. Taking Electrical and Electronics or Mechanical might bring me down the drain. These topics is some topic that I hate the most in SPM Physics. Though I may be able to cope up, but I have an attitude where I don’t do stuff I hate.

I have to give up Information System Engineering (for now) because of lack of jobs. Yes, I am paranoid. I am afraid that I can’t get a job with a degree majoring that. Since this is my interest, I have decided to self study all these computer related stuff. I still love computers. But I really can’t see myself working as a Programmer, IT Specialist or Network Admin in the future. Maybe interests doesn’t equal to a job? That’s my thought.

But, studying only in Miri makes me lose the chance to go outstation. That means I am going to lose the chance to do outstation study, living an independent life without family experience. I want to at least try that once, even if it’s for only a month. So, I plan to work after getting my CAT, then try to further study somewhere. At least, I can support myself, and I can experience outstation studies.

For my 2 friends who’s in UTAR taking foundation, who’s expecting me to join them this May, who’s trying so hard trying to find a place for me to stay, well, I am sorry that I am not going to join both of you. I just want to wish both of you good luck and all the best.
