I, just like most of you out there also don't know what to do in my future. I'm kind of torn between two professions, Chartered Accountantcy or Engeneering. If you asked me what I wanted to become a few weeks ago I would have said Chartered accountant. Then my mother talked to me about what subjects I should choose for grade 11 and she recomended that I should choose subjects that would enable me to study for engeneering. She made a lot of sense and now I'm confused and back to square one. The worst thing is that I've got to make a choice before the school reopens in two weeks. I'm starting to regret the times when my Geography teacher talked to us about our future and I never paid attension

here is what i think. chosing charted accountancy is secondary . first, u have to ask your self what things u will be doing in your chosen profession day in and day out. will u be happy doing that.what i mean to say is try to get into the mind of the proffesional that u are going to be in future. and veiw it from yhat angle. and the most important thing is to correctly evaluate your chosen proffesion. if u chose charted accountancy here is what u should do. the corner stone of education are books. choose it correctly.dont go for indian authors.go for international editions(accountancy) preferably from one of this publishers - mcgraw-hill,prenticehal,harcourtcollege.good luck

Ehmm.. came across your blog by accident, saw this post and decided to put in my two cents worth. If you can afford local college, you should really really not do Form 6, it would be a waste of 2 years. And about choosing between what is practical and what you are really interested in... well, for me, I'm definitely not a risk-taker. I'm doing pharmacy now. Chose it because it was practical and guranteed me a job, but at the same time it'll(hopefully) leave me enough free time to pursue my other interests. A job is just a means to earn enough money to live the rest of your life the way you want to, right? At least, that's what I think.

Maybe i shouldn’t worry too much? I should just go for what I like… hmm…

Yup, just make sure you do your very best in what you like. :)

Don't forget to compare a few Universities and Colleges for their syllabus, because even they provide the same course, they might have different subjects, or major.

Good luck. :)

Here I am again. :)

According to a statistic, it shows that Business Studies graduates ranks number one in the unemployed graduates statistic, followed by the Computer Studies. Yes, Computer Studies got the 2nd rank!! How amazing, the course that I am most interested in, is one of the most unmarketable job.

Opss... Then the course I'm studying is ranked the FIRST, so how? Quit? Hahaha ... No way!! I tell you what, why bother which course is marketable? If you really put effort in that course, any course is marketable. As I've told you, my Diploma is micro-electronic, Degree is IT, now MBA in USM. I've gone into 3 different fields, I can tell you I love all except my Diploma (I realized I've gone into the wrong course after finished it :yikes: ).

If you want to go for Accountancy, you have to study until you are the Charted Accountants. If you just have the lousy CAT qualification, your salary won't go anywhere.

This is true, same applies to IT too !! You expect to hold a Degree in IT and work until 55? Usually, after you enter some big company like Intel, they will ask you to get some professional certificates, bla bla bla. I've seen successful accountant (my friend's daddy and he is a Charted Accountant ), living in a 1 million bangalow. I've also seen great IT guys too. :)

About how marketable is the Accountancy skills, well, everybody knows there's always business and companies in the world. Everybody wants their companies' money to be managed properly. Here is where accountants becomes handy. No unemployment problem if I go for accountancy.

Yes, you might not have unemployed headache in accountancy. But ask yourself again, are you selecting a course to study based on the unemployment rate?

Ok now, even the Sarawak State Government is concern about people with mechatronics skill. There's a lot of company importing people from oversea with this skill. Therefore, this job is marketable too.

I have atleast 2 friends studied Mechatronics in PSDC (a college in Penang), and regreted so much. According to them, Mechatronics is like stucking in the middle of Electronic&Electrical and Mechanical. I'm not too sure about this, you better dig more information about this course.

Because of my financial status, I have to consider studying locally rather than oversea.

You are a bit better than I was, for me, oversea is totally out of my choice.
Get a loan, and spend it wisely !! Use the additional money to buy some Unit Trust.

And that does mean I have to really, really score my SPM.

If you choose to study, that's one of the things you SHOULD do !! Of course I'm saying you should learn and at the same time score. Do not score without learning anything out of it. For me, in my SPM I selected those subjects that I love and score it, the rest I got so-so results.

I would suggest you to list down all the courses you've shortlisted. Evaluate each of them, ask yourself how are you going to be in the next 10 years in that field.

All in all, I can conclude what I want to tell to just a few words:
Every field is competitive and marketable. It's actually the personalities and knowledge that counts. Go for the one you love the most. :)

I know you can take up PTPTN's loan and pay back later.

Just follow your dream or you will regret later. I quit pharmacy that I did for 2 years which I wasted it (true) and took up mass comm which it soooo suits my personality. I know now what's right for me.
