And Miri Becomes a City
And now, I announce that 19th of May 2005 is the last day Miri is a “kampung”. Today, 20th of May 2005, Miri is now a city!! :tounge:
I thought that changing the status of Miri to a city is a small stuff, and not really a big deal. But, I’m shocked to see that it is announced in TV3’s news, and even Petronas is making an advertisement out of it. Looks like it is a big deal. I wonder what makes it a big deal, its just now that Miri is a city.
I don’t see anything good when Miri becomes a city. Price of things started to increase. Increase a lot. Mee kolok from Rm1.70 to Rm2.00. Comics and magazines, use to follow the retail price, and now they’re increasing it Rm1.00-Rm2.00. How about salary for the workers? NO INCREASE of course. Sigh, we as Miri consumer really suffers a lot. The bright side? Better roads. More entertainment. Better Looks. That also means more cars and traffic jams.
Miri is a city, a portless city. Not any port, but streamyx port. Well, if you’re a follower of my blog, you should know that I rant a lot on stupid TM and TMNet. I just hate it when they say no port for the past 11 months. 11MONTHS, i repeat 11 MONTHS. Sigh~ they shouldnt just focus on those physical developement. They should give me streamyx. You know streamyx is so important to me? After Miri becomes a city, still no port at my area. I’m so disappointed. :tounge:

But, if Miri stays “kampung” all the time, it’s not cool too. Maybe I should change my perception on Miri becoming a City. :noworry:

ashie: Sorry for the misunderstanding. Miri was a town before becoming a City. I like to say miri was a “kampung” because of being no streamyx port. 56k kinda reminds me of stoneage or “kampung”

But seriously though, Miri ppl sometimes have it better compared to us Kuching ppl. Being situated not far to Brunei certainly has its benefits.

u know i wonder why the people in Miri are so happy about Miri becoming a city,
As a city, the cost of living increases, property costs more (good for the rich who own property, bad for the poor who can’t afford anything!), more crime, traffics jams, more population, pollution, and oh yeah, pay more taxes!
Logically the ppl of Miri should be sulking the notion of becoming a city. I guess the people are just caught up in the frenzy. Essentially, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. (sigh) People are too easily manipulated…

:o:o oh my god, cant belive that, miri change a lot than last time. i thought that sibu will bcome city 1st, who knw, miri 1st, kuakaka. well although sibu almost as big as miri also cannot be city. u know la, got ppl said 1 state 2 city is the maximum but they dun reliase how big is these state. but i belive later bintulu also will bcome city, even mukah and sibu will….o yeah, actually is about miri. ya change a lot than last time. bcome so beautiful liao, cant belive it , so clean and the place really is a big town.
