A CAT at the age of 18?

July 14th, 2004 in Personal 3 Comments

Today, our school invited some people from some higher education institute, Institut Tinggi Fajar. They claim they are the only institute that is ACCA approved tuition provider in Miri for CAT course in Miri.

Well, they keep on babbling on how to become a certified accountant in Malaysia, where you must be a member of MIA before you can use the “Accountant”. That word seems to be protected in some Acounting Act of Malaysia. You cannot just simply say “I’m an accountant!!” or something like that.

Well, he goes on and on about degree of Accountancy where there’s only about like 7 local government U’s which is certified by the MIA. The rest? Rubbish…. Then he start talking about profesional organization, instead of degree. There, he talks about ACCA. ACCA, is 100 years old and recognised by 160 countries world wide. So that means, if you’re a ACCA, you can work as an Accountant anywhere, since it is a popular one.

Then, he start talking about CAT, something that will reduce your study time if you want to get ACCA. He said that we can start taking CAT course now!! Yes, Form 4!! OK, it works like this. For form 4, you take 2 papers, then in Form 5, take another 2 papers, then after you finished your SPM, you have to clear about 5 papers (in 6 months), and if all the paper is cleared, you are a CAT!! So, you’re a CAT at the age of 17 or 18!! Miao miao… its so fast eeh….

You’re now a CAT, and you want to be ACCA. Then, study for another 2 years, and you will be an ACCA. Work for another 3 years (a requirement to become a member of MIA), then you will become an accountant!! That means you’re a qualified Accountant at the age 23! That’s so fast…

Cool huh? But i didnt plan to take the CAT now, since i prefer to concentrate on my SPM. With SPM, I think I would have better oppurtunity and more open choices. If i study CAT now, and i got bad result in SPM, my job oppurtunities will be only on Accountancy. I prefer to have more choices, cos i havent really decide what to study after my SPM.

Do You Believe In Taboo?

July 13th, 2004 in Writings 3 Comments

Taboo? English today, our class is reading some passage about Taboos. It is interesting, but do you believe in it? Or is it just nonsense? Well, I do practice certain taboos in my daily routine, though some might sound a bit rubbish or nonsense.

Some of the taboos are still practiced in my family, but some are very new to me. There’s a taboos related to sleeping, which my family and I practiced, that is “not to let your dirty feets go to bed”. Yeap, I always wash my feet before I go to bed. I’m used to it. I did this everynight, automatically, it’s like part of my routine.

An expecting mother should not be frighten by something hideous. If you got frighten by that something during a pregnancy, your baby will resemblance that something.

Well, this story is kinda real, as told by my mom. My mom’s relative was pregnant. And so, one day she got frighten by a monkey. When the baby is born, the baby really looks like a monkey!! Not only that, the baby is also very naughty!! True? My mom can’t possibly be lying rite?

Don’t take picture of the naked baby or the baby will be embarassed of themself when they look at themself naked.

I don’t believe that. Why? Cos I have a lot of pictures of myself when i was a young baby, naked. And now, I dont feel embarass of myself, I mean, why would I? Well, if I do embarassed of myself, then i would believe in this taboo.

Actually there’s more taboo on the book, but I forgot most of them. But the thing is, some i practiced, some i don’t. Hmm….. is this taboo thing real? Some I do believe, some I dont….

RoboSoccer Jr. Tournament

July 4th, 2004 in Personal 5 Comments

My Kuching trip. It was friday. The flight is on 11.55am, so I have to skip school. Oh no… my accounts class!! My teacher is teaching the hard part that day. *Sigh*

So, I reach the Miri airport at about 11.15am, checked in right away when we reach there. Go in to the plane, take off, for about 50 minutes, landing, reaching Kuching at about 1.10 pm. My teacher got a taxi ticket and we just got to the hotel right away.

This hotel is much better than the hostel that we stayed in the last trip (DUH~). Of course hotel is better than hostel. There’s a single and a double bed in that room, quite roomy for the 4 of us (me, Lex, Kotarou and my teacher).

Since the hotel is in the centre of the city, so eating is not a problem. We all went to the nearest chicken rice shop and ate there. As for dinner, we all ate at the some food shop, tried the claypot rice.

The four of us went to Tun Jugah. Looking around, but didn’t buy anything. Nothing to buy, I suppose. And then we went to the waterfront, and this time Lex did bring along his digital camera. We took pictures, of course, since the sight there is very beautiful.

Then we walk all the way back to the hotel. It was like almost 10.30pm. That’s when we did a last minutes enhancement to our robot, making sure it works fine for the tournament the next day. Doing all that until it is 12am.

Lex and the teacher, always the first to sleep. That’s when the “wild” me and Kotarou, not yet asleep, talk and talk and talk. About 1am like that, me and Kotarou go out to “lim teh”, but in the end we “lim milo peng” :P Both of us sleep at about 2am.

The next day, the day of the tournament. That tournament was a mess!! Don’t know who to blame, but it so out of schedule. And we’re out of luck too. There’s no quarter-finals, and there’s 4 groups. So, obviously, the highest 4 groups will proceed to the semi, and there’s no 2nd highest can’t proceed since there’s not quater.

Well, the qualifiying round is just like the any other football game qualifiying rounds, win 3, draw 1, lose 0. In group C, we, SMKDP are leading with 7 points, while the other team, SMK Kapit is 5, and the rest is really out. Well, the last game of our team is againts SMK Kapit, we’re all pressure to win, of course. In the end we lose, but if there’s 5 more seconds, we can score for a draw!! *Sigh*

After that, I am so out of mood. I spend time walking around UNIMAS, taking pictures with Lex’s digital camera. As for the LAME final, St. Joe Miri wins SMK Limbang. Was it a good match? Hell no, its so boring, its like as if the sensor of the robot doesn’t works.

Well, I still remember the last year’s match between our school and St. Joe Kuching, it was like a real soccer match. Everyone was like cheering, you can even feel the adrenaline and the excitement. You can feel some people cheering “St Joe!! St Joe!!”. Even some other Kuching supporters cheers for our team. I still remember the score, it is 5-4, we lose. But it was really an exciting match.

As for this year’s RoboSoccer Jr tournament, it’s like all the favourites has been eliminated. All the new teams proceed. Looks like new robots is better than experience.

So, we went back home, bringing a bad news. *Sigh*
