My Class, No Hope
I got back my accounts paper. 70, not bad for a first try… But i must maintain this mark or else teacher will make me jalan itik.
I chatted with my chemistry teacher 2 days ago, when the “centipede incident” occurs. She punished all those who failed chemistry with her “stand under the sun” punishment, that makes only 3 was in the class, that’s me, the smart girl, and my teacher.
Well, since the girl is not a talker, so i sat alone, reading what’s teacher going to teach. Just all of a sudden, my teacher is asking about my brother. She taught him too, since she is the only chemistry teacher in our school and my bro and me are in the same school.
Teacher: So how’s your bro? He is suppose to be graduate now rite?
Me: He failed. Only 1 paper to clear, his maths.
Teacher: Owh… bad…. so how?
Me: Well, im not really sure, but as i know, he must take the paper again. If he passed, he will need to wait till next year before he can wear the “hat”.
Teacher: What course is he taking again?
Me: QS
Teacher: Hmmm…… with that, its easy to get job.
Me: Yea..
Teacher: That reminds me of the olden days. My husband fails his elektif (not sure what’s in english) subject. He needs to repeat and waited a year before he can graduated.
She goes on and on about careers and studies. Talk about the good and the bad, racism and stuff. You know, chinese like us is very hard to get into local uni while malay like herself gets into local uni easily. I can’t believe she also didnt like that too. She’s a malay, she should be happy, rite? We chat chat and chat, and she suddenly talked about how hopeless is my class:
“You know what, 4s3 have no hope. I was hoping a big change when you come to this class (I was from 4s1), but it’s still the same. Only 2 of you (me and the smart girl) have the potential of a science student. The rest? They have potential, only that they are lazy. Well, i know you did try to help them, but you can’t help them much if they dont help themself.”
“You can’t help them much if they don’t help themself”. Nice saying. I will always keep that in my mind.
